What do you use to file your taxes?
Or, more specifically - If you file your taxes electronically, what do you use?
I've used several services, from fly-by-night operations that no longer exist, to TurboTax and TaxCut.
The fly-by-nights were great for free filing when I was in school and my taxes were simple. But now that I'm married and own a home, my taxes are slightly more complex and it's more important than ever I file them correctly.
A while back, I used TurboTax. While it did the job, the software was slow and clunky, possibly because of all the options it offered. I suppose if I owned several homes, an industrial truck fleet and a jewelry smuggling business, TurboTax would be right up my alley. But paying for the software on top of the federal and state filings left me feeling gyped.
2 years ago, I tried TaxCut online. I had heard of H&R Block and decided they couldn't be any worse than the others. I didn't have to buy any software off the shelf. I don't see the point to this anyway, since each version is only good for the one time you use it. Doing it online makes sense.
This is the third year I've used H&R Block. I find it simple and straight forward. I'm not bombarded by options and confusing tax-ese, but the detailed explanations and options are there should I need them.
So now that I've shamelessly given them a free plug, what do you use and what do you like about it?
